Assuming a traditional hand tool bench where you occasionally pound-out a mortise or two:

 

D500, no…

 

 

D700 using Steve’s “Domino Width Trick”*, max plunge with cross-pinning, yea…

 

 

*Steve, every “trick” seems to need a catchy name… You can come-up with you own name, if you like... :)

For a piece of furniture I would risk it w 10 mm extra wide tenons at full max depth using a D500. For a workbench old school is the way to go. Too much force is going to be applied to a bench.

Domino width trick? I googled but couldn't find it. Can you elaborate or send a link Steve? :)
