Southwood
Picked up a LA plane from Lee Valley last week during the 15% rebate sale and got it in today. What do you use to clean the oil/ grease off of them with? How far would you tear it down to clean it up?
Arminius
Lee Valley recommends using mineral spirits in a rag, then coating it with no-silicone paste wax. You really probably do not need to tear it down at all, just address the ductile iron exposed surfaces.
Gary
Personally I would tear it all the way down, then buff it lovingly with unicorn hide that is partially saturated with pixie tears. If you must use an alternative, a paper towel works just fine to remove the extra oil. Apply a thin coat of the oil of your choice, hone the blade and get to work! Tpt life
I have not seen issues with my low angle. With Stanley Bailey lateral adjusters, it is possible to over lube and experience unwanted drifting.
AceHoleInOne
Take it all down and clean with mineral spirits. -Ace-
