generous soaking of Watco Teak Oil Finish,wipe off after 20 minutes (re-wipe as needed)

more than a week of drying, probably 10-12 days

somewhere near ten coats of Deft rattle-can lacquer (gloss), with the last coat being satin

sanded between coats, starting at 320 after the first few coats, and working up to 600-800

It's inlayed.

 

I know that the solid wood of the lid will blow out the miters (eventually).

I've been working on a couple of gift boxes that need to be shipped off to vastly different environments than where I'm making them.

Rather than what I did here I'm hoping to make them to last.

I like the look of the solid lid though.

I should be using veneer on something stable if I'm going to make them this way, but...maybe later.
