Chicirda
I am close to finishing up a vanity/makeup table. The main body, drawers, legs and mirror posts will be painted with chalk paint and sanded for a distressed look. The top, however, was simply going to be a light wood stain. My question.... Do you think it will look ok to have a glossy lacquer finish on the top with a distressed chalk paint look elsewhere? Your input is appreciated TIM
wdwerker
Satin or semi gloss would look better
FtrPilot
Do you have enough left over wood to do trial samples? Personally, I would do several samples and let my customer (wife) pick what she wants.
wtnhighlander
Agree with Steve - gloss and chalk paint will clash. Also, glossy finishes just do NOT equal "distressed".
RichardA
The implication I get, is the base is distressed, but the top is replaced when looking at the piece. Steve and Highlander are both correct!
Chicirda
Thanks guys. My instinct as well. Thanks for the confirmation.
Stobes21
If you already have the gloss finish there's no need to go buy another can. Just let the finish cure nice and hard and hit it with some steel wool or high grit sandpaper, like 600. Should give you a nice semi gloss or satin finish.
