LH threads?

I just got an old Rockwell/Delta 46-525.  It's got an outboard spindle that is 1x8 LH thread. Can that be used for turning?  I've found hand wheels in my search for answers, which I'm assuming was what it was intended for.  The only problem I can see with using it to put a face plate on and turning is the fact that I can't find a face plate with those threads.  Grizzly makes something that looks a little sketchy.  I'd love to have just a regular 4" aluminum face plate.  I did find a 3/4 x 16 that I can probably drill and tap to my size.

Any ideas?  Or is it a bad idea in the first place?

yes you can turn outboard..asMcQ said the old Delta stuff was cross threaded.  that way you could still turn from the same side.  I'd check with Craft supplies USA ..packard woodworks, and Penn State Ind.  ..they may still carry 1x8Left..or they can tell you where you might get one
