Nub Thumb
I just got an old Rockwell/Delta 46-525. It's got an outboard spindle that is 1x8 LH thread. Can that be used for turning? I've found hand wheels in my search for answers, which I'm assuming was what it was intended for. The only problem I can see with using it to put a face plate on and turning is the fact that I can't find a face plate with those threads. Grizzly makes something that looks a little sketchy. I'd love to have just a regular 4" aluminum face plate. I did find a 3/4 x 16 that I can probably drill and tap to my size. Any ideas? Or is it a bad idea in the first place? Rick A McQuay
The outboard spindle is meant for turning. The Delta faceplates were dual threaded, not sure where to buy them now. Nova makes a LH chuck adapter.
mick
yes you can turn outboard..asMcQ said the old Delta stuff was cross threaded. that way you could still turn from the same side. I'd check with Craft supplies USA ..packard woodworks, and Penn State Ind. ..they may still carry 1x8Left..or they can tell you where you might get one
wdwerker
I have a similar Rockwell/delta lathe. My faceplates fit on both sides and I have turned outboard. I had to use my drill press table to told the tool rest.
Nub Thumb
Thanks guys. Mick, Craft Supplies did have them. Turns out I just didn't know what to call it. I always thought 'cross thread' was a bad thing.
Rick A McQuay
Craft Supplies has them? I searched under faceplates and didn't see any with left hand threads.
Nub Thumb
They weren't labeled as such. I did an online chat and they pointed me towards a 4" and a 6" Oneway that they said was cross thread. They weren't labeled as that either, actually. According to Josh, they were threaded to go either right or left.
