Coop
Are most guild members planning on building this amazing piece? I'm at awe when I see the the ones at Cracker Barrell, and they are stamped out by the hundreds. It may look and rock like an old HD shopping cart, but I've gotta try it
..Kev
I'll be very late to the party due to traveling for work but, it's on my list..
TerryMcK
I may do in the future but have no plans to do so at the moment.
wtnhighlander
Coop, I have a niece that requested a rocking chair as a college graduation gift. I joined the guild specifically for the rocker build, although I may not follow the exact design.
mrrhode04
I plan on doing it later, but first I have a few other projects to start/finish. I have to finish some cabinet doors, make a few things for my wedding, make a box and then make a new dinning room table for my grandma. Trip
Would like to build one, always wanted to build one, would be a fun project ---- but the women in my life all declined: Wife, Mom, Mom-in-law... One stated that large rockers are, “For old women”... I’ll let you guess which one... The other two declined on the basis of required footprint -- a Maloof-style rocker requires quite a bit more floor space then the photos hint at... Before you commit to the lumber, I’d suggest you tape-out the footprint and see if the thing actually fits in the intended location... Find yourself some photos of a Maloof rocker in a room setting --- see if it fits your space...
Brendon_t
I do plan on building one if not two to replace big leather wing back chairs in my formal sitting Room. I think this will come after the bench build as I think work holding will be very important in the sculpting phase and that's my sad little benches major downfall. shaneymack
I am definitely building one ! I have a few chest of drawers to build before i get around to it though, and maybe a few other things on the honey do list but i will for sure get around to it. Immortan D
What rocking chair you guys are talking about? I didn't see it listed under the Guild projects tag on Marc's website. Is membership required to see the pictures of it? Because I'm no member not yet.
bushwacked
Would love to build one of these once my skills get way better Ya where are the pics? I have only seen a couple on Facebook that he has posted.

I logged out to make sure that you could see it without a membership.

Barron
He isn't done yet, but if you go to Charles Brock's page you can see photos. You can probably Google "Maloof" style rocker and see lots of photos. I am currently working on Brock's Bowtie Stool, but the rocker will follow. Arch Stanton
I'm going to build one. I'll probably lag further and further behind because of work and other projects, but (like a lot of folks) it's been on my bucket list for a while and I figure I'm a lot more likely to actually build one if I do it now. How is the stool coming? I just visited his website and see there is a $10 per month membership if you like; have you joined?
Barron
I bought it before the current school process, but the process of making the templates is going well. I have been practicing carving with the Turbo Plane to get ready. I really enjoy using that tool.

wtnhighlander
I'm looking forward to instruction on the process, but am probably not going to follow the pattern. I need a chair with somewhat different dimensions.
..Kev
Only a couple days before I leave but, thought I'd get the templates cut.. And Marc was right, you are left with a mess!
splinterdawg
Yep, I finally found some 1/8 inch Baltic Birch Plywood for my templates. I'm cutting them out now. This should be fun!

..Kev
Oh very nice!!! Are we getting a build log Kev? No, not right now.. I'm traveling for work again so, won't get to start this project until the fall. I'm sure I'll keep a journal then.
Brendon_t
Is anybody planning on building with something other than walnut? With the current price of walnut, im thinking H mahogany may be the way to go. It's only about $.30 more per bf than black walnut for me. ..Kev
I am considering Sapele but, haven't made any final decisions yet. I'm sure that my wife will let me know when I've made the right decision
Eric.
Walnut is obviously the tried and true traditional species, but I can't imagine anything being ugly in Honduran mahogany...plus it'll be a dream to shape. But have you seen what these things look like in curly maple? Oh my lord...
