Dustin Cookson
I'm just looking a getting idea of what kind of wood this is. Thanks Dustin Cookson
Eric.
Tough to say. LOL I'm pretty sure new members aren't allowed to post pictures until they have a few posts...maybe three or five? Post some gibberish in this thread a few times and try again...
Brendon_t
Picture didn't link But from this angle, I'd say white wood
Dustin Cookson
Sorry fixed it. First time posting to this site
Brendon_t
The color looks like Carob. Do you know if it was from a fruit bearing tree?
Dustin Cookson
No idea. My dad had it for what seemed like forever

RPCV_Woodworker
I'm just looking a getting idea of what kind of wood this is. Thanks Dustin Cookson I'm intrigued if for no other reason than the lack of decay from those heading cuts. Any bark on the edge of that slab? Maybe a high-res of the endgrain? I've got a hunch it may be mesquite, but I'd need to see more...
phinds
I'm with wdwerker ... looks like cherry to me. Particularly colorful cherry, but cherry. Carob is a definite possibility though. Can you get a detailed end grain shot? An end grain closeup would tell the tale. Carob and cherry are easy to tell apart from the end grain. Dustin Cookson
thanks for the replies. I'll take some pictures tomorrow of the end grain
ColinF
It looks like cherry color, but most cherry I've seen has finer grain to it. The grain resembles walnut to me, maybe it's walerry?
Eric.
It looks like cherry color, but most cherry I've seen has finer grain to it. The grain resembles walnut to me, maybe it's walerry? My thoughts exactly. It looks like a slab of walnut but the color is off. I don't know what it is.
Keggers
My vote is cherry. Would be nice to see the bark. It has some nice crotch grain and a little curl in the grain patterns.
Coop
I think cherry as well. Regardless, it's a fine looking slab of wood. Make your dad proud and turn it into a fine looking table or something and send us a pic.
RichardA
I've seen some apple that looks like that, but it's kinda rare!

Strasberry
Looks like it could be a Cedar maybe
Brendon_t
I just visited am arborist friend of mine today and he had recently cut down and milled a carob tree. The planks had a nearly identical color and long slow sweeping grain.
