PWRFULZ3R0
Was given some of this by my father-in-law, he said it was cherry. Some friends said it wasn't. I've never worked with cherry so I'm not sure. It was much darker before I planed it.
wtnhighlander
I am far from an expert, but that grain looks a bit like some sort of mahogany to me. The color in the photos is quite yellow - is the true color of the freshly planed wood actually pinkish, or no?
Guest
I agree it looks more like mahogany or one of the many tropical mahogany-like species.
wdwerker
Looks like african mahogany ( Kayaha ) to me.
Brendon_t
Not a wood expert, but that does look quite mahog-ey... yeah I went there. Can you get another picture of it in natural light? How about a clear end grain shot?
Pete Staehling
It definitely doesn't look like cherry to me. I am not very experienced with mahogany varieties, but it does look like something in that family.
Eric.
Yep, what these guys said. Either mahogany or fauxhogany...leaning towards the latter but hard to say with the not-so-great pics...it's possible it's Honduran. 100% not cherry...wrong grain altogether. PeteJr
Not cherry! Having just finished a project with 100 bd ft of cherry I'm certain it's not cherry.
PWRFULZ3R0
Yup, it's african mahogany ( Kayaha ). Wdwerker was correct! My buddy showed me a sample from a Bell Forest sample pack, matched exactly except mine was a little more "pink". THANKS!
