At the same time, I need it to have a small profile. There will be no Roubo vises in my design, just a makeshift tail vise on one end. What do you guys think? Did anyone build something like this? Good luck to ya if you decide to go this route. I wish I had space for a full sized workbench. This sawhorse could be made with removable legs and stored vertically when not in use. Tom King Posted June 23, 2015 Report Share Posted June 23, 2015 Actually, put the end against a wall, and it would be useable. I've used a little 4' Lervad like that for decades on jobsites. Sometimes it even gets a board laid on top held in the shoulder vise by a block screwed underneath the board, and the other end on a roller support. http://www.historic-house-restoration.com/images/novdec2012_018.JPG This setup used 6d finish nails as stops to hold the strip I was making the molding from (or maybe 4's-don't really remember). I think the opinion you got was valid and non-insulting. Don't feel self conscious about asking the question. Rather than a saw horse to fit a bench desire, maybe research a knock down bench. I think there is a knockdown Nicholson plan in the free world out there. Sellers walks through building similar from construction grade lumber. A creative need is what fuels ingenuity. In the video it seems like it worked pretty well, but he ended up giving it away for a reason I don't recall. (I won't call it a bench because a bench in the traditional sense may not be what you need.) How much space do you have to work in? We have some apartment dwellers on the board that may be able to chime in with some tips and tricks. What if we came up with something that could be useful to your other half when you are not using it? A small bench could also store things under or over it.
