KevinR
First post. I am a beginning woodworker, in every aspect of that phrase. Recently I constructed a pedestal 29 inch high column, rabbet joinery w/ 1/2" red oak, fully enclosed. I am trying to figure out how to attach the top. Considered figure 8 fasteners, 23G brads etc as I plan on hiding the hardware with bead and cove trim but don't know if it will be flush enough to hide the gap. Any thoughts on this? Remember, this is my very first piece and it will not be in the Smithsonian any time soon. Thanks for any advice in advance.
wdwerker
You drill a hole with a Forstner bit that overlaps the edge so the figure 8 can hang out but not leave a gap. 1/2" walls on the pedastal might be a bit too thin to do this, screw could split the wood. How much does the top overhang the pedastal ? How big is the top ? How big is the pedastal ?
