Fryguy
Hello Everyone I've built an outside pool house bar and bought a 2½" thick slab of maple for the bar top. The wood will be obviously exposed to the sun, but I'm having a Sunbrella side cover made for the pool house to protect the bar top from weather (rain/snow) when its not in use. I'm looking for recommendations on the best way to treat the bar top to protect it from drinks, condensation, and even some wet weather if we left it uncovered. So far, I've had suggestions to use either tung oil or McCloskey Man of War marine spar varnish, but I'm not convinced either are the right finish. Thoughts? Thanks Jeff
Janello
Helmsman Spar Urethane. 3 to 4 coats, good for 4 to 5 years in those conditions, before you need to scuff and recoat. You'll find the edges where peoples arms are wears a bit quicker, so an arm rest may help. You never really want prolonged standing water on the surface, I would tarp it off in the winter.
