natelucht
So I am in a bit of a dilemma: I live in Colorado and in the summer it's hot, it's dry, and I don't have AC in my home. Evaporative coolers (swamp coolers) are an excellent option for lost cost cooling here but they introduce a lot of moisture into the air. I wouldn't be overly concerned but I have built almost every piece of furniture in my house, with most of the joinery done without screws. My concern is that the moisture will cause the wood to swell during the summer months while I run the evap cooler, and then it will shrink again in the winter when I just run the furnace. I am afraid this may ruin some furniture. Has anyone run into any major issues with this or have any experience in the matter?
el capitán
I think Marc AKA the wood whisperer had a swamp cooler in one of his old shops, and I don't remember him saying he had issues. Not trying to be snarky here but wood move you just have to plan for it. Welcome to the forums by the way.
Barron
When I lived in Grand Junction I ran a swamp cooler in the summer. It was many years ago, but I don't remember it making the house all that humid, not much more then the monsoon weather outside. I don't think you will have a problem.
