collinb
Even though I've just begun using planes, wen I saw these at a garage sale I wasn't going to let them get away. Just $9 for the batch ($5, $4, $2, left to right). On the left is a Stanley #3. I don't know the designation of the low angle in the middle. And I know absolutely nothing about the little baby on the end. Any information would be helpful. Tx.

Llama
I love my Knuckle block plane. I overpaid for mine, and am still happy. You should be thrilled!
Coop
Does the knuckle block plane describe a function or is it called that because of the way it's made?
Tpt life
That shiny round palm grip that features the adjuster underneath is called a knuckle cap as opposed to a lever cap with the adjustment on top.
woodbutcher74
Great find! It sounds like one of those being in the right place at the right time. But I am curious is the dollar different in Ohio, because in Illinois $5+$4+$2= $11? Or did you get a deal because you took them all? Llama
Does the knuckle block plane describe a function or is it called that because of the way it's made? C hit it on the head... I'll add this.. The knuckle uses a compound lever action to apply pressure to the plane blade. A large amount of pressure is possible, and usually results in over tightening and actually cracking the mechanism or the plane housing. Most people have too much pressure on their blades, regardless of the type of mechanism. Just something to consider when looking for a knuckle plane. Daniel Kuehl
Nice find!!!! The number 3 smooth looks like a type 13 to me and would have been made 1925-1928. Here's another page that will tell you quite a bit about the bench plane features and when they were made (and improved): http://hyperkitten.com/tools/stanley_bench_plane/type_study.php The knuckle joint block plane may be a number 60 or a number 18...depending on the type of depth adjustment mechanism. You can tell a lot about how these planes were taken care of by just looking at the nickel-plated brass thumbscrew knob on the front....your's looks perfect! The tiny little squirrel tail is a Stanley 100....which I have not had the pleasure of owning yet, but I'm still looking!
