Leonard Haden
I've been considering purchase of a Harbor fright/Grizzly mini milling machine for drill press and hopefully using it for mortise and tenon scenarios angled grove work in wood. What kind of feed back has your community received in regards to these expensiveness machines?
Vyrolan
They're both just Sieg X2 mini mills...as basic as it gets to still be a "milling machine". It probably makes a decent (yet expensive) benchtop drill press since you have the fine control of the table for positioning that sufficiently precise for woodworking. The depth is going to be very limited by woodworking standards though...and overall power/speed is going to be less than a woodworking drill press (for stuff like hogging out most of a mortise with forstner bits). I don't know about trying to use it for making mortises or angled grooves... Why not just use a router? I think trying to do those things with the milling machine is going to be a very slow process. I think as a drill press with limited throat depth, limited depth of cut, but a fairly precise adjustable table...sure. As a mortise or slot cutter, I'm not sure.
