Mzdadoc
Been working on the garage shop and it's getting closer to being usable. The table saw got quite a bit of surface rust along with the strip along the rail that locks down my fence. (PM2000) I decided to use my 8000 grit sharpening stone to clear off all the rust. It actually worked really well. Then I waxed her all up. Anyone else do this?

Cant wait to see your shop up and running with all that bad ass lighting!
Trip
==>New use for my wet stone. Right/Wrong? Wrong.. The rust erasures work well (I’ve got them in several grits and use all of them – especially on bench/block planes) for spot rust and tarnish. But for the true OCD, it leaves a new scratch pattern on larger cast iron tables– so you now have a bright clean area in a sea of dull gray... Hum, what to do? Well, after the rust is gone, I use these for a full table referb: http://www.amazon.com/Nunn-Finer-Simichrome-Metal-Polish/dp/B00BSJYQ9S http://www.amazon.com/Festool-482779-A280-Vlies-Abrasives/dp/B002VMYT70/ref=sr_1_cc_7?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1437937411&sr=1-7-catcorr&keywords=festool+vlies http://www.amazon.com/Festool-497404-S800-Vlies-Abrasives/dp/B004INGNVA/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1437937411&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=festool+vlies I then follow-up with: http://www.amazon.com/Renaissance-Wax-200ml/dp/B0012S1XBO/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1437937608&sr=1-1&keywords=renaissance+wax applied with: http://www.amazon.com/Sander-Buffer-Polisher-Backing-Adapter/dp/B00E828Z4O/ref=sr_1_4?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1437937664&sr=1-4&keywords=festool+buffing You then have a mirror shine... Until the next time I drip some glue on the top, not notice, not wipe-it-up right away and end up with rust again... Note: this is a typical cyclic process... Don't ask me... Life happens...
ColinF
I use 800-1000-2000 grit paper in a ROS, works great and leaves a nice, shiny top.
