Brendon_t
Herein starts day 1. Wife landed in Guatemala City this morning.Lets see if a Marine turned corporate citizen type can do the stay at home thing with 3 kids for 8 days. I may may come here grumbling unintelligible rumblings if frustrated. Just ignore those. If it sounds like I'm losing my mind, then get concerned. Strasberry
Good luck sir! This is an undertaking of epic proportions!
Tpt life
In my experience this is not a big deal. Just don't set your expectation based on your wife's performance. Like my mentor in my first year of teaching said, "Survive for awhile, then worry about improvement."

If it sounds like I'm loosing my mind, then get concerned. Can you give us a few tips on how to differentiate your usual "unintelligible rumblings" from "losing my mind"? We're not trained professionals ya know...
shaneymack
Brendon i know you have a 10 year old, how old are the other 2? If it gets bad, hire a nanny and hit the hotel for the week!
Brendon_t
Thanks for the encouragement. I know it shouldn't be too bad, it's just an endeavor I've never undertaken. I'm the one who deployed, travels for business. .etc. I've never been the stay behind party in charge.Shane, the other two are 5&6 yo. The ten year old is a big help, but he does have his limit of how long he will allow himself to be constantly pestered by the younger two. Woodenskye
I am sure you will get through it, when the 10 year old lays down the law with the younger ones, everything will fall into place.

Providing you had one to begin with.
Llama
You'll be fine.. My wife left home for internship in Wyoming two weeks ago. Home with the two kids for the next 50 weeks.I will say that it's easier being the one who is deployed. I'd rather be in Korea than in Wisconsin with two kids. Coop
We had my wife's 8 yo neice and 3 yo nephew this weekend and were told if they didin't mind, to send them to time out. Time out my ass. My parents didn't know what time out was. And now these two know that the next time someone sends them to time out, to count their blessings!Brendon, only 168 more hours!
Woodenskye
If they really start acting up, you could always go to their room pack a bag, show them out the front door and tell them they don't behave, they can find a new place to live. Shaped my son up for a week. Long enough that in your case the wife will be home by then.
Brendon_t
My kids have grown up under a strict rule. They are really very good kids. I don't worry much of their behavior. What I worry is about their schedules. 2 in football with hell week starting tomorrow. One with piano every day, two have gymnastics every day, summer camp every morning, 7 dogs to keep alive. . From what I've heard, kids actually eat 3 meals a day, At some point during this, I've still got to work. .
Coop
I thought about the meals? Either you're a better cook than me (pork and beans out of the can with pbj sandwiches) or KFC is gonna get rich?
Tpt life
My ten year old has half a dozen meals in her grasp. That's not counting cereal or sandwiches.

Rapid Roger
Your own kids are bad enough. You can make the rules and use your own punishment methods with them. Wait until you get to "baby-sit" grandkids and the parents have their own way to handle problems and your "heavy-handed" methods are frowned upon.My grandkids are fairly well behaved and have instructions to follow the rules at Grandmas and Papas house when they are here, but there are times.....Rog
Brendon_t
Got everyone fed, dressed, and out the door on time. Forgot snacks, minor setback. This is gunna be a cake walk
Coop
Never slough off snacks. It's what children look forward to the most when their mother is not around. This neglect will quiet possibly be with them for many years to come Quickly retrace your steps and get them the snacks before they realize they're missing! Brendon_t
Yeah right, we weren't on the road for 3 minutes when one asked about snacks. They remembered.

Drives me nuts! I tell my mom if my kids are acting up for her to bust their asses! Mom and dad took the paddle, the hair brush, the belt the switch, whatever they could get their hands on at the time, to my rear end, honestly I think I'm better off for it. My oldest sister however, to hear her tell it dad beat her mercilessly on a daily basis! Edited August 3, 2015 by ColinF

Brendon_t
My parents were pretty heavy handed when I was young, they have chilled out a lot since then, but again, my kids rarely require more than a stern look or a "watch it bub" to set them in line. I can't even remember the last time I had to get physical. Having a Marine for a dad, they have all grown up some on military bases with kids who also, have discipline and manners. Now out in the civilian world, we are always hearing from teachers and other adults how wonderfully behaved and respectful they are. Makes a dad smile.. And want to knock the crap out of their kids who are running a muck..

Times have unfortunately changed, I remember fearing getting smacked so I just behaved.
