jds
I am building a bedroom suit out of Ash. Was wondering what the best finish would be to create a Satin type finish, but yet will resist scratching and doesn't have a "tacky" feel that tends to collect a lot of dust. (The wood will be stained to a mid-light oak first)What are your recommendations.
wtnhighlander
General Finishes Arm-R-Seal is well regarded around here. The usual recomendation is to apply gloss for the initial coats, with satin as the last coat. Multiple coats of satin tends to become cloudy looking. Strasberry
Is Arm R Seal a regional finish? I've never seen it before.
..Kev
It's a General Finishes product. I usually order it from Rockler because I don't have a local dealer.

jds
I have used it before....and like it. Just didn't know if there was anything better. How many coats do you recommend?
AceHoleInOne
3 coats is all you need. I would not advise using clear/gloss for the first couple of coats then finish with a satin. Save on material cost and use 3 coats of satin and you'll be fine. -Ace- Anything better...can you spray?
Chet
Is Arm R Seal a regional finish? I've never seen it before. If you go to General Finishes website, you can find out if there are any suppliers in your area. I was going to order from Rockler then found that there was a retailer about four miles from my house that carried it. It was a place that I was in quite frequently but not for finish or stains so I didn't realize they carried it until I saw their name on General's website.
Strasberry
i'll check, but for me the nearest town of any size is 100 miles away! We only have about 5,000 or so people in the whole county! That gives me an excuse to check out the new store! Cool!
