Beechwood Chip
I'm sticking with Windows 7 until they pry it from my cold, dead hands. And then I'm seriously thinking of switching to Linux or OS X. Maybe I'll change my mind after Windows 10 has been around for a year or two. xxdabroxx
I've got 8 at home and don't care for it very much. It seems they are trying to go the way of apple and take all of the control away from the end user.
-MattK-
I have Sketchup Make (no longer Google Sketchup, right?). Upgraded to Windows 10 2 nights ago and it's fine. Besides eating one excel file and my calendar (both easily replaced), Windows 10 hasn't been too bad. Better looking and easier to use than 8. That stupid home page thing is gone, back to the pop up menu in the lower left. Good luck!
xxdabroxx
You can add "Classic Shell" to windows 8 and get the start menu back. Best free software ever.

Beechwood, if you like Sketchup, be prepared to jump through hoops to use it on Linux. That is the ONLY windows program, whose functionality I really want, but I can't get working under my preferred Linux distro, Ubuntu. So far, I have found no equivalent linux-native application to substitute.
Beechwood Chip
Good point (SketchUp onLinux). Still, Windows 7 should be viable for a year or two, and by then there may be other options.
