rodger.
Well, I made my final decision and bought a powermatic 54HH jointer today. It is being shipped from the States, so I should be able to pick it up at the dealer later this week, or perhaps earlly next week (depeding upon the border). It was pricey, but I am pretty excited!I'll post a review and such when I get it.Here is a link to the jointer if you wish to see its specs/features.http://www.powermatic.com/us/en/p/54hh-jointer-1hp-1ph-115-230v/1791317K

Strasberry
This is the same router we used in the last Cabinet shop I worked at! I was there five years and that jointer was used everyday. Great piece of equipment! Very good choice!
bushwacked
awesome! what was the deciding factor between the 6" and 8" jointer? I am assuming you wrestled with that thought?
rodger.
The new jointer was decided at 6" due to two major consideration. The first, of course, was cost. The unit I bought was about 2k CDN, and that was the absolute limit of my budget.i really wanted a helical head, and this unit has a real "Byrd" cutter head, so that was a plus.the second consideration was space. The 8" parallelogram model is HUGE - no way I could get it in the small shop.
Eric Anderson
I have the 8" PM 60HH. Have had it now two years. Came straight, true and accurate right out of the box. The 2 HP motor can take anything I throw at it with no problems. Very hard to go wrong with a PM tool. I think you will love it and the Sheilix head is far superior to straight knives.
