CaptainOfThisBoat
Long time lurker here and wanted to say hey and ask a question!I have been looking for a table saw on craigslist for a couple months now and have also been considering the Ridgid 4512.Not to many decent table saws come up in my area but this one came up today. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/tls/5180863651.htmlI was just wondering if anyone thought this was a good deal. Would it be better to just get the Ridgid? I have been talking to the guy today and he said it runs strong. It does have a crack in one of the webs on the cast iron wing. Its a pretty long drive ( hour and a half) for me to go pick it up.Thanks in advance!!! wtnhighlander
If I lived anywhere close, I'd grab that deal in a heartbeat. Insist on seeing it run, but if it runs OK, it should be well worth the $100. Obviously needs some TLC, and is old enough that it won't have a riving knife, but still should be a much more solid saw than the Rigid. CaptainOfThisBoat
I was hoping so. I would have to get a fence for it
minorhero
I live in Maryland and I am pretty familiar with the local tool market. For 100$ its a fine saw. But thats also because 100 is about as cheap as you can get. It is not however a very good saw. It depends on whether you have a bigger budget. If you do then this appears to be the best deal locally at the present: http://annapolis.craigslist.org/tls/5172278510.html500 for a unisaw with fence is pretty hard to beat.
knotscott
It's a solid saw that's well worth the $100 IMO, but a decent fence will add ~$200. Here's a good option for $200…. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/tls/5185725632.htmlHere’s another that’s pretty similar – http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/tls/5182225565.htmlAnd here’s third good alternative – http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/for/5185180753.htmlHow far is Bel Air from you? – http://baltimore.craigslist.org/tls/5165293418.htmlThis Bridgewood looks to be in great shape, has solid cast wings, an excellent fence, and is made in the same plant as the G1022…probably a slightly newer model. The asking price of $400 is too steep IMO, but $300 would be a reasonable offer….I’d consider $350 if it checks out as good as looks in the pic.http://baltimore.craigslist.org/tls/5177421959.html
knotscott
Is this a hit and run, or are you still with us?
CaptainOfThisBoat
Sorry knotscott. I've been away for work the the whole week. I ended up passing on the deal as it was a little more work than I wanted to do. Thanks for all the info on the other saws! I forgot to add. DC is about an hour and a half from me and Baltimore is like 2 1/2 hours. So a little far
knotscott
No worries. The right deal will come along. I still think this one is a lot of saw for $150 if it's still available, and is within a distance you're willing to drive.http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/for/5185180753.html Edited August 28, 2015 by knotscott
CaptainOfThisBoat
Very true. I'm just so confused when it comes to deciding what table saw to buy used or just save and try to buy new.
RPCV_Woodworker
For 100, I'd go for it. Get in touch with the Washington Woodworkers Guild, they might have some leads on people selling off tools.
