Tsam
Hi forum!I'm in the market for a surge protector, but I'm getting lost with all these joules, gauges and amp ratings. I'm planning to plug in a scroll saw (the Dewalt 788, 1.3 Amp), a belt/disc sander (not sure on amps), a work light, a couple of lithium battery chargers, and possibly more. And I'd like a cord length of 6-8 feet. Can anyone direct me to a good buy for these purposes? From what I'm understanding, I'll want at least 600 joules and at least a 14 gauge cord, but I'm new to power tools and want to make sure I don't fry my stuff! Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!
Brendon_t
I personally use an 8 plug 12 Guage surge protector above my bench. Its got chargers, lights, sanders, so vac. Plugged in most times. I don't remember the brand but it was about $35 at staples.
wdwerker
If you use one tool at a time it's not as big a deal.
Trip
Are you looking for a surge protector or are you looking for a powerstrip that just happens to have rudimentary surge protection as part of the package? I'm asking because I'm not sure I've ever seen a post about someone needing surge protection in a shop environment... Is this a requirement driven by local conditions? Local generation, unstable grid, etc?I've got a couple of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JV3CKA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00I use them for battery chargers and the like... Nothing fancy... They work... I'm not sure I'd plug an AC motor into them...
