Popular Post bradpotts
Here is a mantle that I built. The curved design was inspired by a demilune table. It is made from walnut, holly and cherry. I dyed the cherry to match some of the other furniture in their house. I used bent lamination to get the curved front. I don't have a picture of it installed because my phone died. I will post another picture when I have time to go back to their house. Before the dye and finish. Andy Wright
very cool look. Is the border around the panels purple heart? If so, do you have a secret to keep it from turning brown?
bradpotts
very cool look. Is the border around the panels purple heart? If so, do you have a secret to keep it from turning brown? Sweet mantle, Brad! Very nice detail work. Which species is the pinkish-looking border around the rectangles in front? It is Purple Heart. I don't think there is any way to stop it from turning more brown. There are finishes that have uv inhibitors. I have also heard if you rub on Armor All every once in a while it will slow the process. I would be cautious of the finish that was put on though.
