iroinmike1775
Can anyone recommend a brand and color to match this oak door? I bought and used "golden oak", brand x and this built in definitely does NOT match the door or the store sample.
RPCV_Woodworker
The door looks like the tone I get from Cabot's Golden Oak... Th built-in looks too red for golden oak.
estesbubba
Tough to match colors from pictures because of the color variances. Plus brand A golden oak isn't the same color as brand B. I would take the door to a professional paint store where they have samples on real wood or can color match. Eric.
I'd rather refinish the door to match the built-ins than the other way around. Not only would that be easier but IMO the darker stain is slightly less unattractive. IMO.
Guest
To my eyes the difference in sheen is more noticeable than the difference in color. The door looks semi gloss, the built in looks more matte.
Coop
Great looking cabinets Mike! I too would try and match the door to them
wdwerker
If you haven't sealed over the stain try rubbing it with a gray abrasive pad and some mineral spirits to lighten it up.You can mix natural stain in to lighten the original stain . Measure and take notes so you can repeat if you run out. Make test boards ! Repeat what was done on your bookcases then practice your lightening or re staining. Take notes then use your solution of the bookcase.
