wdwerker
Back View. Entire cap is a separate piece to ease delivery. Open gap is for wiring lights. 1/4 ply top for appearance from the nearby staircase.A supplier cuts double Celtic knot trim on a CNC. Magnets hold the large doors shut. 23 X 64 1/2 doors with glass are going to be a little heavy.
Tom Cancelleri
Nice Steve, magnets are a great touch to doors. So much better than clips over rollers.
shaneymack
Looks awesome Steve. When do you have to deliver to client? Sent from my SM-P550 using Tapatalk
Coop
Now that's sweet! I guess the openings will have glass?
wdwerker
It goes out the door when it's done, no deadline. Glass shelves and glass in all the openings. Line bored 5 mm holes in the 3/4" ply back and back side of the 5/4 face frame will support the glass shelves. Keeping 12 rows of holes level was not fun ! wtnhighlander
Really nice, Steve! Hope we get to see it with the base before delivery.
Coop
Steve, in the second pic, the piano hinges are not seen. How did you conceal those?
Woodenskye
Steve, That is looking great like everything you make.
wdwerker
Hinge is completely behind each door. So middle door only opens 90 degrees. It was hard to find oil rubbed bronze finished piano hinges but they don't come w screws. Had to buy a box of 1000 ! JosephThomas
Did you buy some kind of kit for the door magnets, or did you just buy some magnets at the hardware store? Also, what is the width of the rails/styles? Looks great!
wdwerker
K & J Magnetics online has the magnets, plus the cups and countersunk washers . They also have loads of technical data about uses and pull strength.2 3/8 rails and stiles, shaker style, with the back routed out for glass. mat60
WOW...Thats great work...Did you make the doors with stile and rail cutters and then assemble doors rabbit and square up corners with a chisel? Do you also make your crown molding..
TerryMcK
Great job Steve. I like that carved fascia trim above the doors.
Trip
Funny, I’m right in the middle of an entertainment center build and will probably (read as will definitely) borrow some of the ideas...Nice crown molding, is it built-up or did you mill it in one go? I was looking at something similar... Sorry, just saw the back photo and answered my own question... The CNC trim is nice... I’ll probably go with dental molding --- not having a CNC source...Thanks for the shot of the back, I was planning for the standard rabbet for the panel – I never thought of pocket screws... That’s a nice time saver. Also, thanks for the source on magnet catches – again, I was going to look around next week...Looking forward to seeing it with finish... wdwerker
I figured that finishing the interior was going to be tough. So I built the case using dominos and Kreg screws. After a final sanding I am going to take it apart, tape over the domino holes and stain and finish the parts seperately then reassemble.Kreg screws will pul joints tight and save the finish from clamp marksThis is where I got the Celtic knot trim. They do much more than trim.http://www.heartwoodcarving.com/Yes I can make my own crown but it isn't worth the set up time for one 12' stick. My local hardwood lumberyard sells real thick crown quite reasonable prices too.
