Popular Post tedfmcm
Needing a monitor stand at work, and being a woodworker, I decided to build one over some plastic one I could order for the department...as well as going completely over the top in form over the simple function. I decided to take the opportunity to try out some 'Greene and Greene' inspired work and figured a small project like this would keep me in getting into too much trouble. Also, since I'd be staring at this from 9-6 each day, went with some salted/curly maple I picked up along with some cherry for the sides and ebony accents. I modeled the basic reveal proportions and template construction from Marc's blanket chest and added the plugs as I saw fit. Also added a slim drawer for desk essentials which I did handout dovetails on front and back for practice while keeping it wide enough with enough clearance to push my keyboard underneathe if desired. Finished with arm-r-seal, 3 gloss and final satin. I resisted the urge to add some of the other features, e.g. Cloud lifts, fancy drawer pull, and am pleased with my restraint as that seems to be a common pitfall of delving into this style Amazing how how long the details of this style takes, even with such a small sized project, and is completely over the top for what it is, but I'm pleased and will enjoy brining some woodworking to work. Thanks! Edited October 6, 2015 by tedfmcm
Woodenskye
That turned out really nice, almost to nice to put a computer monitor on it. The ebony plugs really enhance the other wood choices.

wtnhighlander
Wonderfully executed, Ted. Beautiful combination of materials, too. Its a shame the monitor foot will cover some of it!

wouldwurker
Good choices on the gloss coats followed by the satin coat, Couldn't agree more with G&G on small projects. I learned the hard way that the smaller the project, the less proud to make the G&G elements as well. A 1/4" proud ebony plug might look great on a blanket chest, but not so much on a business card holder!
