End grain growth rings look zig-zaggy(like that fine descriptive prose?). It is soft wood, my finger nail dents it a bit. It also appears to be semi-brittle, because i have a 2" section on the edge that is about to snap off along the full 11-12' length of the board. I bet it is a softwood( conifer, needles etc)A really clean cut end grain picture and a clean smooth picture of the face sure would help.
