theyellowtreeworkshop
Has anyone any idea what species these are?
wtnhighlander
Honestly, the top looks like red oak to me, and the bottom two look like yellow pine with age and possibly colorant added. But then, I know squat about species identificaton.
theyellowtreeworkshop
The dark timber is solid. I tried to plane it, comes out smooth but has a funky smell too. The two large rounded peices on picture one are very very heavy. Planes a dream really tight structure. Ignor the softwood in the picture, that was there because I tweeted that I have some more free timber to add to the pile. wtnhighlander
If you can post some clearer photos, especially of a clean end grain cut, close up, there are some folks here that can very likely give you a correct identification. Eric.
The pictures are terrible but I'll take a stab at it anyway. I say they're both ash. The light being raw and the dark being roasted. They do this thing where they cook wood and it turns dark through and through. Clearly those dark boards have gone through some kind of manufacturing process given the tongue and groove on the ends and the relief grooving on the bottoms. They look like flooring cutoffs to me. theyellowtreeworkshop
Thanks for the reply. Ill get better pictures tomorrow with the dslr. Yeah the dark boards where left in the new house. Guessing someone had that flooring because there isn't that floor in the house.
