Popular Post Janello
Just finished making this for the wife. I found this board in home depot. Go figure.Hope this picture works, not used to posting from my Macbook. And here's a page stolen from Daniels book. Used some ears from plumbing clamps to hold in the glass and picture. Eric.
Cool man, I like that! How'd you do the little groove detail, just a table saw kerf?
wtnhighlander
Nice frame! I can't believe you got that stock from HD, mine only has meh red oak. Who is the artist? Or is that an animation cel?
Janello
Cool man, I like that! How'd you do the little groove detail, just a table saw kerf? It's actually a small thumbnail. I tilted the blade over a few degrees and ran it through on edge. I was planning on having to make an adjustment but got lucky with the fence location on first try. Half the blade stayed buried in the stock. No measurements...just luck Nice frame! I can't believe you got that stock from HD, mine only has meh red oak. Who is the artist? Or is that an animation cel? Thanks! It was hand drawn by a Disney artist.

bgreenb
Go figure pun intended?looks awesome man! People underestimate how tricky it is to make a picture frame. I made a couple and was shocked at how long it took to get it right. Beautiful job.
sheperd80
Looks great, nicely done! What a nice piece to find at hd. Did u walk around the store with an oily rag testing boards for figure? Lol They frown on that btw. Eric.
I see figured boards at HD from time to time...not that I ever buy there, but I can't help but look. It's no surprise, given that figure is technically considered a defect at the mills and culled out of the FAS - and that HD sells the mills' culled out trash. Ironically you'll spend about the same amount per board foot on "regular" maple with figure in it at HD as you would on curly maple at your hardwood dealer. So there's really no savings there anyway. Janello
True that, Eric. I try to avoid buying wood there because it way over priced...just very convienent for me. Closest local hardwood dealer to me is a 40 minute ride, while HD is in my back yard.

Vyrolan
My HD has joined the ranks of selling more species. Cherry and Walnut available now. They actually had a decent 1x6 Walnut board...$9.46 per linear foot lol.
