Chet
I have a 1/4 inch 6tpi hook tooth blade on my bandsaw and was wondering if I would have any success cutting plastic with a blade like this. Specifically the plastic that football helmets are made of. I make a couple of awards for a high school football coach each year where I cut a helmet in half and mount each half to a large plaque to make the awards. In the past I have cut the helmet in half using my Bosch hand held jigsaw but now that I have the bandsaw I thought it would be easier using it, if this blade will work. Brendon_t
I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't. Starting the cut may be tricky with it wanting to ride on the surface but I'd give it a go. Edited November 25, 2015 by Brendon_t
ColinF
I think I would go with more teeth, it will leave a smoother cut, and to expand on what Brendon was saying, maybe you can start a kerf with a hacksaw or dremel.
wtnhighlander
I would worry about the plastic melting, but if your jigsaw worked, the bandsaw should be fine. Feed slow.
Chet
Well this worked out really well with the blade I had. As a precaution I did run some blue tape over the cut incase there was some chipping but after doing it I don't think it was necessary. Like I said before, I do the every year as one of the awards I make for a High school coach. This photo is from a couple of years back, but it shows the end result.

Chet
Thanks Ross. Being able to cut this on the band saw this year instead of the having to do it with the hand held jig saw was real nice. Almost makes having the Laguna worth it all on its own.
