veneer jointer jig

Investigated edge-trimming on the jointer and found it wanting... It works OK for straight-grained domestics, but exotics tend to splinter...

So, I converted to router-based veneer edge trimming and found the results far superior...

Unfortunately, the jig is larger, heavier, harder to store and it's construction is more involved...  With those caveats in mind, the results are worth it...

The veneer sandwich is placed between the two fences and clamped in place. The router /w spiral flush trim bit rides on the upper fence and registers off the hardwood runners...

Construction features: 3/4 BB with hardwood edging to register bearing. Final assembled jig is passed over the jointer to produce co-planer bearing guide runners... Upper and lower fence clamping cauls are cambered...

Jig looks good !

i used a much cruder approach but router , straight edge and a shearing angle bit w bearing were the same.

i am going to watch the rest of the desk build. I might learn something or improve my methods !

Andrew does a lot of veneer work. He has some really nice builds on his youtube. The mantel he builds as well that matches the desk is a great piece too.
