Brendon_t
Are these new or just new to me? http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/narex-rasps.aspx Anybody have them? Seen them? I'm wondering how they graduate from rough to fine. I went to highlands website to buy the Aruiou set but saw these. I was and am very happy with my bench and mortise chisel from them.

Tom Cancelleri
They can't be too bad. I say give em a shot and let us know how they are
sjk
I looked at what Highland sells and compared them to Narex's website. Narex lists "teeth roughness (cm2)", so the higher the number, the finer the rasp. Here's the corresponding numbers for the ones Highland carries: flat rasps 16mm @ 20 teeth cm2 20mm @ 16 teeth cm2 25mm @ 12 teeth cm2 round rasps 6mm @ 20 teeth cm2 8mm @ 16 teeth cm2 10mm @ 12 teeth cm2 half round rasps: 16mm @ 20 teeth cm2 20mm @ 16 teeth cm2 25mm @ 12 teeth cm2 They're machine stitched, vs the hand stitched Aurious or Liogiers, but given how well Narex has done with chisels, I bet they're pretty solid. Brendon_t
Yes, they are not hand stitched. I believe they said cnc stitched.

Llama
What, no set to order one thing with a tool wrap? Nicole S gave me one of the best pieces of advice ever, you have to make things easy to buy. Nobody wants to send a check, and if things belong in a set put them in a set!
Immortan D
I have several Bahco rasps. I wonder if the Narexes would make a difference.
Barron
Not aware of rasps being sold as a set except at big box stores. Given the price, it would be worth a try.

Brendon_t
Going to have to look around for another distributor. Highland doesn't break any of these out. It's just one of each but with the price, and how happy I've been with their chisels, I'll give them a try. Looks like infinity has the set. http://www.infinitytools.com/6-Pc-Narex-Premium-Rasp-Set/productinfo/00-720/
Cochese
I just got three of these tonight. A flat, and two rounds. Very nice.

Cochese
OK, I got a chance to try these out on Saturday. I don't know how much of a review this is, as I never owned a rasp before. All I have is a cheap set of files (these, to be precise). I could never do much with them, because up until awhile back I didn't understand the difference between a file and a rasp. These are pretty aggressive. I experimented with a cutoff of soft maple that I had handy, and proceeded to put a roundover on it. It took a couple tries to get comfortable with how it worked, but that's a function of my inexperience versus the tool. It worked really well, and I then was able to smooth it out with the file, and then make it nearly ready with the hand block sander I just got as well. So, I'm happy. The handles are very nice to hold. Hornbeam, IIRC. I don't know enough to tell you if CNC or hand cutting for the rasps is better, I just know that this works. I'll upload a few pics from my phone after I write this post. I also then wanted to experiment with the round rasps, so I did something that just sprang to mind. I think I'll make my way down to Highland in the next few days to see what the 'fine cut' rasps feel like. If they cut similarly to the Woodstock set above, I'll grab one of each and a regular half-round rasp and I'll call myself good. I learned from my chisels that I don't need every single one. Plus, my tool cabinet would burst. If there is something else you want to see out of these, I can try to comply. My handwork is very immature.

Barron
Thanks for the review. At that price it looks like a great deal and unless you are working curves on a regular basis I am not sure you would need anything else.

AstroDave
I don't have a good set of rasps or truthfully I only have one half round rasp. I just recently got an Infinity catalog and saw they now have a 10pc set...So I will be putting this on my list...hopefully they will still be on sale in a few weeks. http://www.infinitytools.com/10-Pc-Narex-Premium-Flat-Half-Round-Round-Rasp-Set/productinfo/00-722/

I have 3 Auriou rasps and honestly I am not sure I will need many more. Yes, each rasp was $100 or so but they are awesome. I'd rather buy one top quality $100 tool at a time and get exactly what I need than end up with a bunch of filler.

Brendon_t
I was thinking the same thing, yeah it's 10 different tools but I doubt I'd have a need for all of them

For example I have the MLCS 66 piece set and have probably used 10 of the bits over 10 years. I learned my lesson and now it's buying one a Whiteside at a time as needed. Anyone want to buy a 56 boxed set of brand new router bits?
