Popular Post ..Kev
Client build. Client has a civil war era rifle to show and requested the rack. Black walnut with Tried and True finish. Lots of sap wood in it but, that also was at the client's request. Was a bit of a rush job as well, had to be ready for display by the 3rd. Cutting this one close!

wdwerker
Interesting way to display a gun. Kids and pets would probably knock the gun out sooner or later. But in a man cave or gun room it would be a great feature. I look forward to seeing the table w gun in place at the clients home. Well done Kev, sign it and date it ! Doomwolf
The piece looks great, but one thought - what are the local laws on displaying firearms? Up here (Canada) it would be illegal unless the gun had a trigger lock on it, which would take away from the aesthetic of an antique (at least in my eyes). The way museums get around that up here is by putting weapons behind glass. And rendering them inert, which I think is a shame, but I don't write the rules. This will be in a private residence without children. Perfectly legal here to display firearms any way you chose. I could leave all my firearms laying on the counter if I want. Besides, from that era, it would take you about 4 minutes just to load it
Doomwolf
I just know all 50 states have their own laws and some are more restrictive than others. Doesn't matter how long it takes to load if it violates some bureaucratic rule, but it sounds like you're clear on that front.
Tpt life
I don't know of a state regulating flintlocks.
..Kev
Just now, Doomwolf said: I just know all 50 states have their own laws and some are more restrictive than others. Besides all that, I was commissioned to build a rack not interpret the applicable laws.

That is what I am getting at; should have mentioned it up front. I do like the piece, but the rules came to me first as I'm fresh off my Fire Arms Safety Course and waiting for the paperwork to get processed so I can get a shotgun and go skeet shooting. Brendon_t
I dig it. Would also like to see the rifle proudly displayed on it.

That's the problem in the world today, people are just too sue happy! I don't take on any liability with any project that I build for clients. One reason I don't build baby cribs

Doomwolf
TIODS - Agreed, and wise man. Brendon - It was mentioned, but the baseline of federal laws is much higher in Canada vs the USA. That is the last I will say on this, as firearms regulations & their differences between different states/nations are not the point of this thread. wtnhighlander
I don't know of a state regulating flintlocks. A bit off the timeline for US Civil War era!
estesbubba
Very nice Kev! At first I was confused because the title said gun rack but my brain translated the pic as a bench. I guess it could be a bench for little people but I think it's better suited as a gun rack.
