Popular Post Phil B
I made this about a year ago for our front entry area. The slab is Madre de Cacao (mother of chocolate?) and is a non-threatened species. Apron is cherry and legs are anigre. The second picture shows the template I was using to select the best cut for the slab. Finish on the slab is oil based (took forever to dry because the Madre de Cacao is so oily). A year later, the finish is still in great shape. Haven't even bothered to wax it yet. Used water based poly on the legs. Wish I'd used minwax wipe on poly instead. But still happy with the way it turned out.
shaneymack
Good job on the table Phil! It looks great in your entrance especially with the rotund lady dancing on top of it! Lol
..Kev
Very nice table! Only change I would have suggested is a curved apron but, that's a personal choice. Glad to see more of us doing the live edge work!
Phil B
yeah, I agree that a curved front would look nice and actually thought about it. Even drew out plans in SU but wasn't super confident in my M&T joinery at that point so opted for a lower risk approach. I'm to the point now where I would give something like that a try. As for live edge - I love it though it seems to be quite popular these days. I worry about it being a bit of a fad. Slabs in my neck-o-the-woods are ridiculously pricey. ..Kev
Do the jointery before the curve Always best to work of square pieces when you can. Still a very nice piece!
Coop
Phil, Really neat looking table and great combination of woods.
wtnhighlander
Looks great, Phil! And I'm not even a big fan of live edge furniture! That piece has it "just right".

Coop
Glad Ryan brought this back. Kev, can you find an example of the curved apron you speak of, as in which direction of the curve?
wdwerker
Bowing out under the live edge in the middle.
Anna S
Beautiful table! A lot of the live edge tables I see are such massive pieces, and I really like this one. The legs fit the slab so well.
