Popular Post Tom Cancelleri
Sometimes you get a little sad when you see a piece of firewood that looks like this. Then you run it over the jointer, and it looks like this. Then you wish someone milled that tree for you. Tpt life
Around here the firewood sold is end cut and branch wood. Very pretty at times but not worth angst.
wdwerker
I have a piece like that, it came from a bundle of grocery store firewood. Saved it for some little project one day.
..Kev
The spalted maple scoop and cutter that I did for Mel came from fire wood. Use what you can from it and enjoy it.
RichardA
We had an ice storm that took out a soft maple, and I cut it up for firewood, and the other day I found that the whole tree was full of curl! Oh well, I'm not in a hurry to burn it......maybe someday.................
Tom Cancelleri
I was thinking I'd turn another mallet with it, or some long paring chisel handles.
Jfitz
I've "saved" a few pieces from the fireplace as well. Only a cpl have really yielded anything interesting, albeit in small pieces. I saved this one just the other day - haven't milled it up though.
Popular Post wouldwurker
Most of the grocery store firewood around here is very spalted white oak and pecan. It put them in my oven for about an hour to kill and creepy crawlers before i cut them in the shop. Coop
Spalted is good for woodworking but sucks as firewood! Unless you burn out before it does?
Jim DaddyO
I steal wood from the firewood pile all the time. The back of the essential oil cabinet (see my videos titles "A board of Cherry") came from the fire wood pile, as did the round mallet I always used. I have made stuff from walnut too. I have a kerfing plane I started over a year ago, that is waiting for me to get back to, that is walnut and I found a piece of spalted maple that will be part of it.
