Snibley
I'm fininshing up a harvest table that I am making out of very old pine. I was wondering if anyone has done this and what type of finish too use? I was just going to use Poly but the more I read the more I am debating it. Does anyone have any advise for a finish for a harvest table? thanks
wdwerker
Poly or Danish oil.
Coop
Harvest table. I looked it up and all that I saw were rustic looking and used as a dining table inside, right? The ones that I saw were fantastic looking. Will you be posting a pic of yours, I hope?
wdwerker
Poly will protect better but oil is so easy to renew and looks like an old family heirloom.

Tom King
Almost anything will darken the old Pine a Lot. If darkening matters, the one thing I know of that doesn't darken close to as much as anything else is an acid cure waterborne lacquer floor finish made by Bona, called Naturale. It's not cheap at about $115 a gallon. It will still darken the Pine some, but only deepen the natural color. On Oak, it looks like nothing is on the wood, but the finish is hard enough for a commercial floor like in a museum or hotel lobby. I've used it on tables and countertops, and in those applications I doubt it would show any wear for a Century.
