Bowclamp

I just received, as I'm sure many of you did, an advertisement from Wood Mag. In it was a short video from a company called Bowclamp that makes a clamping caul. Does anyone have experience with this device? http://bowclamp.com/projects.html

Marc mentioned them in one of his videos. I cannot remember which.

 

Edit - By mention I mean - he used them on whatever project it was. I feel like he gave them a good review.

Looks interesting and it appears that you get a even clamp on what you working on. Just looks like it takes too much time to setup and get right. Don't like the fact you have to use a mallet to set the camping pressure. I can get similar results using traditional clams and strips of scrap wood.

I have them- they are great. It's just a clamping caul. Made out of soft maple and has a t shaped 1 inch-ish groove for F-style. They have a subtle curve on opposite side of groove. Can easily make yourself. Marc used it in one of his videos to hold down a straight edge when calibrating his jointer in "jointers jumpin'"

I have a set as well but, only used them once..  Sometimes they're handy to keep panels flat during glue up.  Not much to them really and would be very easy to make your own.

Buy one, make its companion with a flush trim bit.

I use them with flat panel glue ups. Applies very consistent and even pressure along the seam(s) and getting a clamp around a thin stock is always a pain. These are probably not very useful for large things, or for most wood working, but are unparalleled for what their intended use is for.
