Popular Post wouldwurker
Haven't made a box in a while, and a buddy of mine is getting married. All the boxes I've made in the past have been wild exotic woods with crazy figure. Though I'd take a page from the Matt Kenney design element and go subtle with the wood species and find beauty in the well-thought out subtlety. Here's the 'her's box'. 2 cuts in total on the scroll saw for the top detail. Cut thin veneer 'sandwiches from these veneers. I picked the darker veneer in the middle to match the Spanish Cedar. Makes it seem more intricate than it actually is..... Mitres are tight btw...just isn't glued up in that photo. Here's the 'his box'. First time I actually bothered to use the Fibonacci sequence in the dimensions. The measurements Really do look pleasing to the eye Ok...so little figure....I had this Af Mahog finish test board lying around from an old project....it just so happens to be the perfect size for a lid! More to follow. Busy as always.....p.s the whole house smells like Spanish Cedar!

wtnhighlander
Nice boxes, Vinny! How is the cradle attached to the side wall of your spline slot jig?
wouldwurker
There are 2 cleats on the side wall. That's what gets set at 45 degrees. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
wouldwurker
Time to saw off the lid from the enclosed box Just a hair shy of a through-cut all the way around...and bust through with a marking knife Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Popular Post wouldwurker
Chamfers added on the router table... Cleaned up the reveal in the 'her's' box lid with my 1/4" chisel (which I never get to use) Gave it a thin coat of Watco Butcher Block to see if I had any glue marks or rough areas........left the inside sanded and unfinished to keep the Spanish Cedar aroma.
