bleedinblue
This happened last summer. I can't explain it exactly, my best guess at the time was the arbor nut wasn't tight enough and the two outer blades had a little wobble, causing them to smack into each other. All I'm sure of is that it was very loud, very scary, and I peed a little. On this one blade, half the teeth are chipped or completely sheered off. The other blade is fine. Is it trash or can it be repaired?
..Kev
Trash. I'd never trust a blade that went thru that!
bleedinblue
I figured as much. I see mention of RE-tipping on some sharpening service websites, but it kinda seems like re-treading a tire....probably not a good idea.
Chestnut
I sent a forrest WW II off for replacement of 1 tip and the guy i talked to said it was not only possible but should come back good as new. I have yet to see the blade yet but there are a lot of places that offer carbide repair. They charge for repair per tooth so it might not be worthwhile to replace the carbide. 1 tooth and a sharpen cost me $14.
Andy Wright
You can definitely have it repaired, but its probably not worth the $$
bleedinblue
Yup, doesn't seem cost effective. I figure if it'll cost more than half the price of a new stack, it's not worth the time and effort.
..Kev
I think I have that exact stack in my shop and it's not being used as I also have a Forest stack.. Make me an offer and cover the shipping and I'll send it to you. Drop me a pm if you're interested..
