byegge
Hi there, so I'm building a display case made to house match box cars and need to know how to finish it. By how to I mean should I pre finish or not. There will be 10 shelves that are 1/4 thick spaced about 2 . 5 in apart. The back will go on last, as it will be felt linned. I just got an hvlp conversation gun and have used it on one other project with decent results. Would the proximity of the shelves cause problems when spraying. I would rather not pre finish if I can help it. It just seems like a pita. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Brendon_t
With so many small compartments, I would spray it before the back goes on.

Coop
How will the shelves be attached to the sides?
byegge
They will fit in dados, sides and top/bottom will be 5/8 thick
wdwerker
Spray the shelves and case before installing the shelves. You could mask the dados and the ends of the shelves to keep the finish from interfering with the fit. So easy to spray loose but impossible to get even coverage when assembled.
