Restoration Proj./Reclaimed Lumber

Since we all have been talking over rustic lumber lately I figured I put up this short journal. You'll never guess what I'm making this for, so don't bother trying. ;)

I'm remaking this shattered piece with the "grey wood" pictured below it.

It is deeply weathered and 167 inches long. Here is a close-up of the front and back.

The back of my replacement lumber is planed, so I planed off the front a little just to get down to the desired surface. After planing the back to the desired thickness I cut a nice long strip. Got some nice straight grain from the reclaimed lumber.

http://I ran that long piece through the router table to round over the four edges. It required all the support stands I could muster.

I milled my pieces that are attached to the back and glued them in place.

I cut some plugs for later.

That's it until after lunch and perhaps a nap.

Wyoming where the men are men and the sheep are scared ?

Yup.

These wagons are used by Basque sheepherders throughout the West. They basically live with their herd to keep them safe and fend off the coyotes. (By what I see from driving by on the highway) Right now is high time for sheep herders. The lambs have dropped and we are getting close to sheering time.

My boss got the thing 15 years ago. It's sort of like a wooden Winnebago. It has a wood stove and a bunk to sleep on. The dining table pulls out and a leg folds down to prop it up. There are all the comforts of home, if your home is like a canvas wall tent and you like pooping out in the sagebrush. :)

That's really cool. I don't think my little 4 cyl ford ranger would pull that very well anywhere.

I use my 4-wheeler (ATV) to move it twice a year. It can be a struggle if I'm starting up an incline from a dead stop. Once it's rolling it's okay. It has no suspension to speak of so it can be a jolting ride on anything but flat terrain.
