bradpotts
I built a table for a client a couple months ago. I advised him on putting glass on the top. The glass wasn't put on on time and he put his signature in the cherry. I put two coats of shellac and two coats of tru oil on top of that. My question is would it damage the finish if I did the iron trick to bring the wood back up? I was thinking about testing it on my own but wanted your opinions before I waste my time. (Iron trick-when you use the steam from the iron to fix the compressed wood fibers)
wdwerker
I did tests and steamed an accidental dent in and expensive piece for I client that I had weeks of labor into. I had stain, shellac, and a water bourne finish top coat. I had to buff with a gray abrasive pad and spot refinish the area. I was terrified but it worked. I made multiple samples and practiced before I tackled the furniture ,even though it cost me several days to prepare.
