Popular Post Marcus Hand
My daughter just turned 11 and she loves Dr. Who. I made her this half-sized Tardis for her birthday. If you don't know what a Tardis is, I can't even begin to explain... It was made out of poplar and birch plywood (for the panels and roof). Thanks to the forum for the General Finish Milk Paint recommendation. I sprayed it using my Earlex 5500 and it went so much better than I expected. The doors open inward because that's what they do on the real Tardis. The sides and doors were made using the Freud Shaker rail-and-stile bit set. That bit set is awesome. Can't say enough about it. The dang light on the top was a project in itself. Making round things is a PITA! The roof was strange... I found a website that helped figure out the compound angle, but it still came out a little off. Fortunately, since it is painted I filled the gap with a sliver of wood you can't tell the difference. This part of the project bothered me. I'm ok with making mistakes, but hate it when I don't understand what went wrong. Anyway, my daughter loves it and sits inside it to read. I figure when she gets older, I may try to turn the inside into a bookcase for her.

wtnhighlander
Nice job, Marcus! That thing looks sweet. Inward-swinging doors are a nice, authentic detail, but will that bite you when you turn it into a book case?
Just Bob
Very nice. What great thing to do for your daughter! I knew what a Tardis is, not sure if that is a good thing...

davewyo
Fabulous! I particularly like the the fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) episodes from the mid 1970s to early 1980s. Wry humor and cheesy special effects were just right for my drug-addled brain at the time. Has she ever watched Red Dwarf? It is one wacky Sci-Fi serial.
Woodenskye
Looks great, the only reason I know what a Tardis is, is because of the Big Bang Theory.

But we will exist back on Red Dwarf with no memory of these events, which of course never happened. And as these events never happened, we'll have no memory of them. [turns to Rimmer] Kryten: In which case, Mr Rimmer, sir, I should like to take this opportunity to say that you are *the* most obnoxious, trumped-up, *farty* little smeghead that has ever been my misfortune to encounter! h3nry
Nice job. Assembled with your sonic screw-driver? When I was a kid there was a real one in the town centre that the police still used. Needless to say everyone called it "the Tardis" ... or maybe the city had been invaded by aliens...

Best guess is that it's a pre-911 phone booth?
bleedinblue
I know/knew enough to know it's from Dr. Who, that's all. Gonna have to Google it I suppose. Looks great!
Ronn W
I've been a Dr. Who fan since 70's. Nicely done. Too bad you couldn't use trans-dimensional wood.
Popular Post wdwerker
Such a wonderful gift ! Attention to detail really paid off ! The question is did you figure out how to make it bigger on the inside ?

Isn't that what those special router bits are for? I love the detail and elevations from the Police banner to the top. Very well done. The hinges are on a hinge strip and I may be able to just flip them around. On 6/4/2016 at 3:05 AM, wdwerker said: Such a wonderful gift ! Attention to detail really paid off ! When I was building it, I asked my daughter what she wanted on the inside (like a shelf or little stool) and she told me a swimming pool and an apartment.
Mpride1911
That's pretty good. I made a half tardis closet for the ex. Unfortunately, now I'm stuck with a Tardis closet
