Poplar Crotch Slab - worth keeping

Title Edit: Worth Keeping? (Question mark)

Opened up the big piece of poplar crotch...realize it's just poplar, but was still a little disappointed none the less.

Worth keeping a 3" slab or two and stickering?

There's green wood sealer on the end grain, but it's getting some cracking along the curved edges. Suppose I need to lop off the top before it spreads?

I realize the time it takes to air dry ...where to keep it ...blah blah blah

More just thinking whether it's worth it given the lack of beauty inside.

If not I will cut it up into blanks for turning.

I just have it stickered like this in the meantime46c4741c206eca63e0680d58238b61f3.jpg

Is that your backyard? Looks awesome. If you have all that space I say why not...if you change your mind later, it's easy to convert to firewood...tough to go the other direction :)

Along Dave's idea, I did something similiar years ago with a cedar trunk. Welded a flat plate to 4" square tubing, screwed the plate to the underside of the log and put the tubing in the ground with concrete.

Coop. Did you build it green, and how did you 'flatten' the top?
