wouldwurker
Title Edit: Worth Keeping? (Question mark) Opened up the big piece of poplar crotch...realize it's just poplar, but was still a little disappointed none the less. Worth keeping a 3" slab or two and stickering? There's green wood sealer on the end grain, but it's getting some cracking along the curved edges. Suppose I need to lop off the top before it spreads? I realize the time it takes to air dry ...where to keep it ...blah blah blah More just thinking whether it's worth it given the lack of beauty inside. If not I will cut it up into blanks for turning. I just have it stickered like this in the meantime

If you have all that space I say why not...if you change your mind later, it's easy to convert to firewood...tough to go the other direction

..Kev
You could cut it into smaller parts which will dry faster and then be useable for sub parts in other projects..
Just Bob
Why not keep it? The worst that can happen is a nice fire! The best is a nice piece.
Coop
Along Dave's idea, I did something similiar years ago with a cedar trunk. Welded a flat plate to 4" square tubing, screwed the plate to the underside of the log and put the tubing in the ground with concrete. wtnhighlander
I'd probably go with turning blanks.

Coop
It was 10-12 years ago but I believe I used a belt sander.

Popular Post wouldwurker
Cut out a 3" flitch and have stickered to air dry. Cut up and waxed a bunch of blanks for turning. Thanks Coop for the bench recommendation
wouldwurker
Took Coop's other piece of advice and bought a belt sander. Smooth city. Amazing how that green poplar darkens after a day.
