Gixxerjoe04
It's been around 6 weeks since we sold our house and my shop and everything went into storage, feels like 6 years haha. Well we finally closed on our new house today. The house wasn't everything that I wanted but is a good compromise since finding everything we wanted would have been about impossible. Was hoping for an outbuilding shop but back into a 2 car garage, luckily it's about 50% bigger than my last two car garage, plus a lot of storage in the basement, so should be a lot better. Only negatives is I have to get a sub panel ran, and put in 220 outlets and more lights, and I have to figure out the best setup dealing with the support beams, so shouldn't be too bad. Started moving stuff in today and moving all of my equipment and the rest of our stuff tomorrow. I would ask for suggestions on where to put everything, but since you all don't know all the crap I have and the measurements, probably wouldn't do any good haha, but any suggestions are welcome. Don't really have a clue how I'm going to set it up, will have to get it all in the and see what works best.
pkinneb
Looks like a nice blank canvas to set up your shop, congrats

Nope, will have a mower and yard stuff in there until I can build or buy a shed for that stuff.
Woodenskye
Joe, congrats on the new house. I would suggest a cluster around the poles, or try to get them in a machines dead space spot. For example if you place the back of your jointer against the pole, it would make the pole not be in the way.
Brendon_t
Dang joe, that is a huge 2 car space.

shaneymack
Congrats Joe ! Best way to setup a shop in that space is to knock out those posts. I'm sure you'll be fine How big is that space? And ceiling height? Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
Llama
Great space!
drzaius
What size? Looks like a pretty big 2 car. And no cars in it, major score.
wdwerker
It looks big now but boy does it shrink once you get everything set up. Of course more space will be lots of fun. Congrats on the new house & shop !
Brendon_t
How many sqft you have in there?
wtnhighlander
Looking good, Joe! Make lemonade with those poles, use them for power and DC drop points.
Pwk5017
Hopefully you do better with working around the columns than I did in my basement. I curse two of them a dozen times each day. They are good for power drops, other than that they are a complete PITA and ruin everything.
Ronn W
+1 on the columns. Think about infeed and outfeed space for all you tools with both large and small stock so you don't have a column in just the wrong spot. I have one column and long stock feeding to my router table clears it by about an 2 inches. I had to plan it that way.
davestanton
Congrats on getting a new canvas to work with. I used the grizzly shop planer and never looked back. It is here. https://www.grizzly.com/workshopplanner
..Kev
Congrats! Sometimes I envy people setting up a new shop! They have many lessons learned and lots of previous experiences to draw from so, it's cool to see how the new shop turns out compared to the old one. We drop into web sites like these and see people like @davestanton or Mike (@estesbubba) and think we'll never have shops that look that amazing.. Before you know it, yours will rank right up there!
Tom King
We set up a new "shop" every year or so. Start with the biggest tools, like table saw, first. That's a nice space.
BeautysBeast
Hey Joe, Running a sub panel is pretty easy. You could save a buck or two and run it yourself. If your close to the TN border, I would be happy to help.
Janello
Congrats on the new house and shop space! I would box those colums in with wood so you can easily use them to hang tools or DC with screws or cleats.

The problem is the panel is in our basement like 6 feet from where I need it inside the garage, so will have to run the wires through the wall and over a back door. Plus there's just one empty slot in the breaker box, rather let someone deal with that, I plan to run the new outlets, seems safer haha. Thanks everyone, would have responded sooner but been pretty damn busy. I'm beat but everything is in the new house. The garage is a disaster area right now, not much room to move. According to the appraisal, the garage is 634sqft. The hopefully good part is new insulated garage doors, then one part is in the ground and another wall towards the finished basement, hopefully the extreme heat and cold isn't as bad as it was in my last place. Have had a few beers and relaxing finally with a hurting back. But man, it's nice sitting on my back porch and not seeing a house anywhere, instead of about 50 feet away like my last place.

Of course I would adopt him, him and my dog play the whole time they're together, would help in the future when the baby comes haha. My number one priority is getting a fence put in, my dog is good 97% of the time, but there is a cattle farm across the road. If she sees a bunch standing at the fence across the road she might take off. Could get hit by a car or kicked by a cow and don't want that. Yeah, fence sounds like a good idea, especially if there's a road right there...congrats and good luck!
Popular Post estesbubba
Congrats on the new place and the view looks awesome. I would put up an underground fence and takes three days to train dogs then 2 weeks of close supervision. After that no problems and you don't mess up any views. Awesome space with the garage and can't wait to see it come together. I would leave one pole as is is case of any bachelor parties. After all your friends are hitched then you can use it to hang things.
