Dust Deputy

Recommended Posts

I finally got around to plumbing my DD into my central vacuum system this morning.  I am very pleased, it works as advertised, which is a good thing since I was going through an 8 gallon bag and filter every 2 weeks.  What surprised me was the amount of air flow loss (suction?).  I used my anemometer and found that there was a 22% drop in airflow at the DD intake.  My system is ducted, and I checked at the longest run, around 34' of duct, and the loss was 24%.  So almost all of the loss occurs at the DD.  The long run is for my drum and oscillating sanders, and I am not sure how it is going to affect the dc of those machines,  guess I will find out.  No matter what I am glad that I finally found the "round tuit" and got it done.  I am curious though,  if anyone has found that the suction loss has caused any problems.

I use a DD/shop vac with my sanders. I found that without the DD the suction was better for about the first 5 minutes of use, then falling off dramatically as the filter plugged. Now I'll go for hours of use without needing to clean the filter.
