Popular Post chashint
Hello, I would like to thank everyone for sharing their projects, there is some terrific craftsmanship going on here. I have built a couple of other boxes out cedar fence wood but this is my first attempt using better wood. This box is walnut and ambrosia maple. The outside dimensions are 6x9. The hinges are just glued on and the hinge pins are cut from a bamboo skewer so there is no metal in the box, only time will tell if this was a good design decision. Thanks for looking.
shaneymack
Welcome to the forum chashint! Great looking box! The all wood hinges are pretty cool. What did you use for finish? Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
Coop
You chose two excellent first time hard woods. Great looking box!
gee-dub
Very nicely done and sure to be appreciated. I have rubbed dowels with paraffin for hinges that have been in use for a decade without issue. I'd say your likelihood of success is pretty high. wtnhighlander
Nicely done, and a great choice if species! I like your hinge design. Do you have the mating parts beveled to hold the lid open at a particular angle!
chashint
The finish is Minwax tung oil. Thanks to all for the kind words.
