Popular Post Cliff
I made a center piece candler holder for a friend. It started as a gift for no reason, then was a gift for cutting me some house numbers out of steel, then a house warming gift. But really it was just cause. I made it from purpleheart and maple. I had to make the legs twice. I accidentally sanded it so much that it no longer fit the piece. I got the idea for this project from a lumberjocks thread, and they got it from some wood magazine. The plans are online for free. This project was actually right at my skill level, so most of it went pretty easy. I'm happy with it. Though I see at least 3-4 major mistakes. And I had the drill press too fast which ripped a chunk out, but the repair was perfect and I can't even see where it happened now. Pretty happy with it. And the girl I gave it to was very happy as well. Finished with ARS semi-gloss, which is all I had. 4 coats + polish of 50/50 mineral spirits/oil. Dog is unsure of build quality.
Popular Post RichardA
Nicely done! Pay no attention to the dogs, they don't have opposable thumbs, so the're critical of everything they can't do! They really hate not being able to hold a beer!

Yup. 2 a few days ago and 2 tonight. I could see making some more honestly. They are pretty easy overall. The biggest problem is that purple heart burns like no other on my table saw. Lot of cleanup with a card scraper.

gee-dub
This one is beech and walnut with a simple shellac finish. Kind of the plain-jane side of the coin from your really cool version. The purple heart and maple combo really makes yours pop. I may steal that idea for some upcoming Christmas gifts. The original is from Woodsmith Magazine (in case anyone wants to go looking) and included being split down the middle. The legs are solid underneath and act to hold it together and as the base for the candle cups to set on. Like a lot of pieces of this sort, the setup is the bulk of the work. I added thin felt "dots" to the feet to protect table surfaces as most folks seem to use them as centerpieces for special occasions. A bit of holly or a small pine bough and presto, it's Christmas. A small colorful gourd or two and its Thanksgiving. That sort of thing ;-)

I'll have to go see what others did. 12 hours ago, gee-dub said: This one is beech and walnut with a simple shellac finish. Kind of the plain-jane side of the coin from your really cool version. I also put felt on the bottom - and mostly because one leg was a shade shorter than the other three, so I doubled up felt on that one and it evened them out. Robby W
With little cups, it would make a neat little sauce dipping tray. Nicely done!
