I have used Ebony because its very hard wearing. I treat my fixtured like british infill plane . Handle on the older Wadkin Kit were made from buffalo horn so the tradition of decorating our tools go way back . think Studley chest   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_O._Studley

I will call it the Resaw bird nest.

I only get the "bird nest" if i resaw with the grain-upright .

This is all so crazy. I gotta come see your shop. Should be in Ottawa later this summer. I will email you when I know a date, I gotta come see this stuff in person!! Its Like a freakin woodworking museum at your place !!
