Popular Post Tom King
This morning Pam went out to collect eggs, and came back to the house to tell me to go get a snake out of the nesting boxes. These are metal boxes, and in between each cubby is a metal partition with holes all in it about 1-1/2". The 5' Rat snake is very well stuck about halfway through one of the holes, and is close to death. I'm going to let it die, and have to cut it in half to get it out. Somewhere on the list of stuff that I didn't want to do today, this now occupies a new spot near the top of the list.
Popular Post wtnhighlander
Several years ago, I helped my FIL disassemble their clothes dryer, because the blower wouldn't turn. We discovered a 4' chicken snake wound up in the fan, still living. FIL called MIL to squeeze behind the dryer for a look, chiding here about not checking pockets before washing clothes. So she squeezed in to see. Until then, I didn't know my MIL could fly.
Tom King
What makes this worse is that the head is in a box that Pam just put about a dozen fertilized eggs of different kinds of exotic chickens. There is one hen that has been determined to sit on eggs lately, so Pam bought the eggs to give her a job to do so she wouldn't sit on the eggs that are for collection. That hen had been sitting on the eggs for several days. We don't keep roosters, so we don't produce fertilized eggs. Otherwise, it wouldn't be much of a hurry to dispose of the snake. Going to sharpen the end of a Bank Blade-what we call a "bush axe" around here.

Tom King
It didn't end up being so bad. The sharp bush axe was the right tool for the job. I decided to go ahead and put it out of its misery. I'm leaving it up to Pam to get the chickens to go back in the hen house.

wdwerker
My boxer has caught and killed several possums a year. Not a scratch on the dog either. She was so proud of one of the first few that she brought it inside (through the doggie door) and drops a beat up possum that's still breathing in the middle of the living room. I had to get a shovel ,carry it outside, dispatch it and then I made a big mistake ! I tossed it in the 90 gal rolling trash can. It was 6 days until it would be picked up.
