Popular Post Mick S
The design changed as soon as I started cutting the parts. This stuff is so splintery that I had to score all the way around every cut I made. My original design had the ends attached using wedged tenons through the sides. Nope. Even after drilling out the waste, the wood shattered when I started chopping it out. So, I did a simple tongue and groove joint and pinned it. This is a very scaled down version of a Japanese tool box. The lid locks on using a wedge. I finished it with Renaissance wax. Quick project, but not easy due to the difficulty of working with this wood. Mick

Never worked with black palm, but I have worked with wenge and I'm pretty sure wenge is wenge's evil cousin.

Sounds pretty miserable to work, but it looks awesome! That's a neat design with the wedge holding the top on.

Like a lot of the things I've made lately, it was heavily inspired by Mike Pekovich's designs on his Instagram page. 33 minutes ago, shaneymack said: That's really neat Mick. Guess I'm just too set in my ways to remember to stop long enough to take a picture.
